Flat, Fast, Fun----Cedarville!

This place gets a bad rap. Cedarville State Forest in Southern Maryland gets the unfortunate label of "the place you take your girlfriend to ride". Well, that's true. My wife Cyndi's first off-road ride was at Cedarville. And it is a great place to introduce someone to the sport. So, if you find it a bit boring, there's only one thing to do....Crank it up to WARP SPEED! Flying through this lush, green forest is an absolute blast! And when I say green, I mean GREEN!! Almost flourescent.
This place has sentimental value for me. I cut my mountain biking teeth here 16 years ago while living only a few miles away. Also a few miles away is where John Wilkes Booth fled on the night he put a bullet through Abe Lincoln's head. He went right past these trails on horseback some 140 years ago to Dr. Samuel Mudds house, where he got his broken leg fixed up. Hopefully, for Booth, Dr. Mudd had some calamine lotion on hand. I've never seen so much poison ivy! I hope the kind Dr. didn't have any. That would have made Booth's and "the other guys" (David Herold) escape to that burning barn in Virginia that much more miserable. Next time you venture down to Cedarville, get off of Route 301 and take Croom Road all the way down. It's a beautiful road through an area that hasn't changed in over 50 years. Would you believe you are still in PG County? Go check out the Mudd House.

Those are some nice picts of the place.I've tooken some of the brown brown trail where it looks like your riding through a tree tunnel, but the camera phone doesn't catch the spirit of the place.

I might have to borrow them for my blog .

Terrific stroll down memory lane; thanks! This is where I took my daughter for her first ride about 7 years ago. She had some terrific spills, and I'll never forget watching her brush the dirt off, pick the bike up and keep on haulin'.
